Week 19 Day 1 – Racing for Cancer!!

Week 19 Day 1 - Racing for Cancer!!

This weeks highlight was definitely joining 3600 ladies, girls, lads and dogs running round Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham for the Race For Life.

This photo was taken by my best friend from Uni, who kindly gave me a lift to the event so that I could take part. This is the end of the race as I pushed for the line and managed to finish in a PB time of under 20m30s for the 5km race.

Was a fantastic experience and something I hope to do for many years to come, the cameraderie that you see is incredible and I can’t wait to do it again – lots of fun and for a good cause, what more can you want!!

I also went to a Vintage event and bought a new dress, although it’s going to need minor altering to fit 😦

I’ve got an incredibly busy month lined up with events as diverse as LARP and Motorracing marshalling lined up!! I can’t wait and loving life at the moment.

But lets not forget the whole point of this blog is my photo-project and the idea of trying to give Transpeople a bit of inspiration and ideas.

The Photoproject is going well with me keeping on track with a photo a week and likewise the blog I think is going well.

I’ll still welcome questions and ideas though folks!!

Week 18 Day 2 – Videos and socialising!!

Published June 24, 2014 by Katier Scott

Been enjoying the weather this week, although no time for sunbathing. I’ve entered a local race for life so, as I tend to be a competitive type, started practicing for it last weekend with a Park Run. 3 miles in 24mins plus wasn’t bad at all, especially given I had trouble with my new trainers.

Unfortunately my calves didn’t like it (and yes I did stretch) and hoping they calm down soon so I can do some more running.

I’d planned on doing the Race for Life with one of my best friends but unfortunately it didn’t happen as she got a brilliant new job and moved away. However inspired by watching newer friends take part in one I can’t wait till next year!

As you can see I’ve attached a video from my new channel, it’ll largely be run separately to this blog but hope that it’ll inspire people to just have a go. I’m not a fan of my voice but one viewer says I have a ‘radio voice’ whatever that means!!

Looking forward to July, work is going to be hard with some potentially long days, but weekends have lots planned including stewarding, a wwI event and more Larping!!

Transition wise things are ticking over nicely, next blood tests are mid July, then docs appointment a week later. The blood test results will then need to be sent to Porterbook where they, hopefully, will put me on Testosterone blockers as at the last test my T was largely unaffected.

Week 17 Day 1 – New Frontiers

Published June 16, 2014 by Katier Scott

As mentioned last week I have started a new project – a youtube channel.

I think I did it for a number of reasons but the one relevant to this page is to reflect the confidence I’m having in myself and of course I’m hoping one side-effect of this blog is to give others confidence.

The new youtube project is a gaming channel and the issue I had with doing it was my voice. As those who’ve seen the couple of videos on this channel will know I’m not the most feminine sounding lady and this is an issue that bugs me. But it’s not something that should stop anyone from doing what they want..

So that’s exactly what I’m doing and so far enjoying it. As I write this I am uploading my fourth video and hope this will be another project that has some legs to it and proves to be as fun and enjoyable to do as this one and if your remotely interested, it can be found here.

I’ve not yet heard from Sheffield with regard to future appointments so will chase them in a day or two to find out what’s going on.

As for this project, this marks 1/3 of the way in which is kinda scary!! It’s been a very quick 4 months and it’ll be interesting to see how things develop in that regard.

I’ve also just booked for a new ‘hobby’ and am going to be marshalling at Donington park in July which will be brilliant fun. After 20 odd years of sim motorsport, this is the first time I will be at a circuit race. I have previously seen the RAC rally GB and events like tractor pulling, but never circuit racing. I can’t wait!!

Week 16 Day 2 – New GIC!!

Published June 10, 2014 by Katier Scott

Had my first appointment yesterday at my new GIC as I have moved from Charing Cross to Porterbrook in Sheffield. First impressions were interesting because on the face of it Charing Cross is a much nicer clinic as the surroundings are, believe it or not, actually nicer at CHX. However it’s not about the surrounding, it’s about the personnel, and so far I’ve overall been pleased with Sheffield.

The biggest difference between the two is the support staff I believe, they seem a lot more interactive and helpful than Charing Cross and, of course, they have a reputation of 3 months between appointments, CHX has typically at least double that.

So how did the appointment go?

I think the outcome was good, however it was all a bit rushed. I had problems getting to Sheffield due to torrential rain on the run from Derby up to the city and had sat nav issues both of which conspired to make me 20 minutes late. I then had to get changed out of very wet biker gear so we didn’t start until nearly 30 minutes late.

The consultant was nice, although communication was a little tricky due to him not being a native English speaker, and he insisted on typing his notes 2 finger style – both of which made the consultation more than a little fragmented.

However the outcome I believe is that he’s putting me in for Voice therapy, happy for me to continue on hormones, and happy for me to look at T-blockers. I’m not clear if he was happy to recommend me for surgery which is a shame but it seemed a positive meeting to all good.

Unlike CHX, Sheffield sort the appointments once the patient has left so I don’t know what my next appointment will be or when. It also looks like normally Sheffield would sort hormone prescriptions themselves, whereas CHX brief the GP and then the GP actually monitors. He wanted to put a appointment in to ensure I got a fresh prescription, however my GP has a plan which I believe she is happy to stick to and therefore the plan is to get blood tests done at GP, send the results to Sheffield, and get them to brief my GP on the T-blockers while continuing the Estrogen regime unaltered.

So that’s it for this week, I’ve now got myself a little challenge, I’m going to start a new gaming channel on youtube so it’ll be interesting to see how that goes.

Week 15 – Day 1 – On time!!!

Published June 2, 2014 by Katier Scott

Yey back on time this week although still coming to the point of struggling what to ramble on about!!

I will be doing a VLog soon and indeed have plans to mess about with a gaming related youtube channel which, given my male sounding voice, is going to be interesting to say the least! Speaking of youtube my channel link will change as I couldn’t remember the details for the account I setup or even the email address used, hardly useful when someone re-installs windows on their pc.

This week is my next appointment to a GIC where I hope to start moving on with some other areas of my treatment that have stalled somewhat or not been started yet.

The main areas I hope to discuss are hair removal – both body and facial. Shaving regularly can be annoying and a lot of the early hair related perceptions I have decided are wishful thinking.

Final Surgery – at this stage they are likely to be just early discussions but want to keep the ball rolling so will be bringing it up.

Voice therapy – this is the fairly big one for me, I’m regularly on the phone for work and it would be nice to have a more female sounding voice so I don’t get mis-gendered so often.

So rather than being a post about this week, it’s more about moving forward and seeing what the next steps of this crazy journey will bring!!
