Week 23 – Day 2 – Full speed ahead!!

Published July 29, 2014 by Katier Scott

Boy is my life running at full speed still.. I’ve just got back from an awesome weekend at Empire LARPing with probably LARP’s best crew. Then on Monday I headed to Sheffield to the Gender Clinic for my latest appointment. The appointment seemed to go well and although progress hasn’t been confirmed the fact appointments are at a much more sensible timescale means I’m happy to be patient.

I got my latest blood test results and was surprised that my estrogen level has hit the target levels. They were 539 which is pretty much smack on target with the target range of 400-600. That means for now I’m sitting on 4mg per day hormones which is no bad thing. My Testosterone is still high (although lower than before) so one thing I’m working with Sheffield on is getting onto T-blockers.

Further positive news is the fact that a friend told me she felt my hair is thickening up, I’m not convinced of it myself but then I see it daily – she see’s it infrequently – so she may well be right.

I suspect my body shape is changing too – although that’s for this project to decide 😉 – but I did get a surprise during my LARPing weekend when I was properly gendered in a spontanious bit of RP. That’s a big thing because accidental misgendering within LARP is not uncommon so when people get it right it’s rather nice :).

Next weekend is motorsport marshalling, followed by either more marshaling or possibly more roleplay.. or just a lazy weekend before more busy weekends at the end of the month.

Overall I definitely can’t complain and am definitely enjoying life – see you all next week!! 🙂

Week 22 Day 3 : In the middle of a field.

Published July 23, 2014 by Katier Scott

My crazy busy live is running at non-stop at the moment with the lack of free weekends, busy weekdays and lots of things on all the time. So much so that I’ve been reduced to making posts in the middle of a field in Northamptonshire, two days late!!

The good news is that, that means I can actually do some ‘work’ stuff while in said field as I’ve finally sorted 3G access out. I was with Vodafone who’s service has generally been fine, however it just so happens that this field is in a 3G blindspot. Fortunately it’s not in a ‘3’ 3G blindspot and thus I am writing this via a mi-fi adapter connected to 3 – problem solved.

This has also enabled me to take the plunge and apply for a new position in a different University – as I forgot to do it when at home. Oh yeah.. me and my memory – turns out my Dyslexia does effect my day-to-day life more than I realised or was willing to admit.

This came to light during a secondment at work which resulted in me getting up to speed at a rate which proved too slow. While it might not have all been caused by Dyslexia, being able to ‘tie’ Dyslexia with the problems I was having enabled me to focus on solving the problem rather than get frustrated with struggling and failing to get enough things right.

On the transition front my boobs are definitely growing which is great, I don’t expect anything spectacular but making reasonable progress this early is great.

I’ve also hit the target for Estrogen on 4mg which is great, I’m not sure what my T levels are so we still need to figure out if I need blockers.

I have my next Sheffield appointment on Monday which surprised me as it’s only 2 months since the last one but I’m not complaining 😀 – just more busy-ness for a busy girls life!!

Week 21 Day 2 – Ok late again!!

Published July 15, 2014 by Katier Scott

Wow this year just gets busier and busier!!

Last weekend I ‘lost’ my only empty weekend to a Sunday spent being a Motorracing Marshall at Donnington Park race track. I got the chance to do it as part of a taster day and had a fantastic time.. so enjoyable that I’m doing it all again next weekend.

Probably the highlight from a trans point of view was up in the Stewards office while being shown around when the Chief stewards said “Thank you gentlemen and (with eyes fixed on me) Lady.. oh Ladies (as he spotted the other lady in the group)”

Yep despite getting up at silly-O-clock I passed halfway through the day when looking decidedly ropey!!

Indeed I didn’t have a single instance of misgendering which is great and shows that the biggest thing you need to do is simply ‘look right’. Dress the same as all the other girls and you’ll be fine – I even spent some of the time (well most) wearing a Cap and no wig and when I wore my wig I didn’t hide when putting it on – I’m a biker so it’s a pain with taking helmet off and hair on!!

I even wore the cap down to my local shop as I needed some milk and couldn’t be bothered to mess with my hair!!

I can’t believe I’m rapidly approaching 6 months!! I’ve got 2 weeks left of current dose of hormones and hope to be going up another dose level next week. I’m slightly behind on hormones as I switched to the higher dose prior to the end of 3 months.

Week 20 Day 2 – Wow I’m still going!!!

Pretty shocked that I’ve managed to keep this going but also pleased that I have. We’re rapidly approaching the halfway point in this project and while I am enjoying it, I am a little disappointed it’s not picked up more followers.

But that said I really don’t know how quickly these kinds of blogs can pick-up followers but with 32 weeks left I’d like a few more.

Life is getting really hectic and I’m facing weekend after weekend where I feel like I never stop!! Saturday I did another Park Run, and like my Race for Life the week before, made it to the end non-stop.. and without any chest pain..

There’s a story to that last statement, last summer I was doing 3 mile runs and started getting chest pain/discomfort. The end result of which saw me in hospital with a suspected heart attack – fortunately everything was ok.

Anyway back to this week; Highlight must be my debut at an Open Mic, I was frustrated by my performance although a couple of reputable musicians have told me it wasn’t ‘that’ bad. The main issue was timing which was a consquence of a bit of a rushed performance and my in-experience. But I definitely enjoyed it and am looking forward to a friend coming back from his holidays to perform with him.

I’ve also got an offer to work with another guitarist which is really cool and must get in touch with him and see what we can come up with.

Last weekend I also picked up a ‘new’ (well second hand) camera or two. A Pentax K100D to replace my stolen K200D, it’s a downgrade by the sensor on the K100 is actually very nice. It’s only 6mp but is still capable of excellent pictures. I also bought an interchangeable sensor camera… also known as a Pentax ME Super film camera and the pair will form the first stage of another pair of photo projects.

Anything to keep a busy girl.. busier!!

So that leaves me with 3 photo projects to work on.

50-at-50 – This was originally a kickstarter project and the plan is to show the flexibility of a cheap, simple lens, when it comes to image taking. I chose the 50mm lens for this project as this was the classic film camera lens and can be available cheaply for any modern DSLR.

Film vs Digital – This project is a semi-scientific approach to trying to settle the argument about which is better. Now Digital is better than Film in many ways, it’s more flexible due to being able to change ISO on the fly, it’s essentially cheaper, although I picked up with ME Super for £5 so it would be several hundred images before it’s cost the same as a modern DSLR. Film before printing costs around £10 for 36 images. The real argument is image quality and I have various plans to test this theory.. watch this space!!

Transvoyage – Last but not least is this project, 20 images down, 32 to go and my boobs are noticeable but not prominant. Body shape hasn’t changed much and I think I’m being hampered by too much testosterone which hopefully will be sorted in a few weeks.

Overall though I have a life which is simply utterly crazy right now and feels like it’s running at volume level 11 and Mach 3.0!!
